We have a small choir at Latton, which practices at 9am in church before the 9.45am service on Sundays. Some members of the choir belong to other choirs and singing groups, which mean they sometimes get to sing in cathedrals and other churches.

As well as singing at our regular Sunday service, the choir sing at other events such as the Christmas carol services, other church festivals and special services. They usually sing an anthem during our sung Eucharist and sometimes an Introit.

Because we want to welcome all types of people with a variety of ages and interests to join our church, we sing a mixture of traditional and contemporary hymns and songs. A number of our choir members, and indeed non-choir folk, also play a variety of musical instruments, which we have been privileged to listen to at various services. At special services, sometimes other church members joined the singers to swell numbers.

New members are welcome. There is no audition, just an enthusiasm for singing and learning, as well as a commitment to taking part regularly. If you would like to join them then please speak to our vicar first.

de Merc Chamber Choir

Some members of our church choir also sing with de Merc chamber choir which rehearses in our church hall here at St Mary-at Latton, The Gowers, CM20 2JP.

They are a small amateur adult choir specialising in performing exciting and unusual unaccompanied choral music to a very high standard.

They give concerts both locally and further afield in a wide variety of venues -- singing a cappella gives them the freedom to perform just about anywhere.

You can discover more about them at www.demerc.org.uk
