Our Churchyard
There has been a churchyard at St Mary-at-Latton for over one
thousand years
... and for long centuries the villagers have been laid to rest
here.
Our churchyard is looking really beautiful and well cared for, thanks to the work
put in by a small group of hard workers from church who are doing a really super job.
How about joining them? We meet together on Thursday mornings from 9.30am until about 1.30pm. Just turn up and bring tools with you if you have any.
Could you adopt one of the older graves, which are no longer attended by anyone? They just need to be kept weeded and tidy. Ask the vicar or Lois our warden about this if you are interested.
Our volunteers take great care of our Churchyard. If you use or visit our Churchyard please download our Conservation Guidelines which explains how everybody can help look after our Churchyard. Our Churchyard is a peaceful place to visit for both people and wildlife. Please download our information sheet to find out more about the creatures you may see during your visit and how we try to encourage them.
Best Kept Churchyard Competition 2015
The hard work of all our volunteers was recently recognised when we were awarded first prize in the Essex Best Kept Churchyard Competition.
There are no gardening mistakes, only
experiments!

CHURCHYARD PEACEFUL GARDEN

The work has been completed on our peaceful garden, which is situated on the
East Side of the churchyard.
There are five raised shrub beds and a bench, surrounded by shingle and
flagstones.
On either side of the garden are rose beds. It's already looking lovely,
but of course will look much fuller once the lavender, fuchsias, and other flowering shrubs have become more established. It
really is a very attractive place to sit and relax and gets plenty of sunshine.
The garden was creatively designed by one of our church members, Eve
Knights. Well done and thank you Eve!
Here's a photograph of our landscape gardener Curtis Blondel, at work.
He's done a fantastic job and is extremely hard working!
Mike Ashton from our church and some of his work team, helped Curtis
prepare the ground and cut the very tough sleepers. Phew!
If you are interested in having landscaping done, then do contact Curtis
at curtisblondel7@hotmail.co.uk We
can highly recommend him to you.
The garden was blessed immediately after the 10am service on Sunday
10th June 2012.
