Baptism

Baptism, which is also sometimes called Christening, is about making a new beginning and becoming part of God's family. It’s about beginning a life long journey with Jesus. In fact, Jesus himself was baptised in the River Jordan and we baptise people using water in the name of God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
If you would like to arrange a baptism, then come along to St Mary at Latton Church one Sunday morning to our 11.30am Family service (the family service especially great for children), and speak to the priest at the end. Or phone Lynn our priest on 01279 424 005

As well as babies being baptised, many adults or older children are baptised too. If you are an adult and are thinking about Baptism, please get in touch with the priest.
If you were baptised at Latton and need a copy of your baptism certificate, please contact Lynn our priest on 01279 424 005.

Confirmation
When someone is baptised as an infant
they are too young to understand the promises made on their behalf by their
parents and Godparents. At a Confirmation Service that person makes those
promises personally because they feel the time is right to take the next step in
their Christian journey. They make these promises before the Bishop who then
prays for them and anoints them with oil. This is a sign of God's gift to them
of his Holy Spirit, bringing an increase in the grace given at Baptism. After
Confirmation they are able to receive Holy Communion.
Before a Confirmation
Service, those who are to be confirmed meet together to explore further the
Christian Faith. /bigger>
If you are interested in exploring the
possibility of confirmation then please speak to the priest about this. If you
think you have not been baptised, then it is still good to come along to the
groups, where you can explore baptism also. If you are not sure that you
understand what any of this is really about, then do come and join us and see.
You don't have to make a decision to be confirmed immediately. Come along and
explore the Christian Faith with others. Jesus said, "Come and
see!"
We have an enquirers group starting
soon.
13 members of our church were confirmed in their faith by our Bishop
David
and received their First Holy Communion on 16th June this year at
Latton.
It was a wonderful Service followed by a banquet of food and
delightful cake.
If you would like to know more about the Christian Faith then please
just come
along to our church and have a word with our vicar Lynn.
